An old lady stumbles into a crossfit gym…. nope, not the start of a joke. 58 months ago my daughter died. 57 months ago I stumbled into a crossfit gym. Had I been even half conscious at the time I never would have made it through the door. But when I did, an amazing community of people at that little “box” welcomed me in. I had never picked up a barbell. My name and the word “athlete” had never previously been used in the same sentence. They didn’t care. They just told me to show up. And continue to show up I did. At an average of 4 to 5 times per weeks that means I’ve shown up over 900 times. Some days I own the barbell and some days it owns me. It doesn’t matter, for I am stronger now – both emotionally and physically – than I have ever been. I am fierce, just like my daughter. I have learned that all you have to do is show up, one day at a time, and the rest will be there waiting for you.
