SOPHIE'S FUND

The Sophia L. Kurek Memorial Scholarship Fund is intended to recognize students who embody the strong academic standards, artistic talents, and personal qualities of grace, passion and diligence exemplified by the late Sophia Louise Kurek ‘13 while she was a student at Goucher College. Sophia graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa in the spring of 2013 with a degree in Dance Performance and with her pre-medical requirements completed. She pursued her dreams with fierce passion. After graduation she danced professionally and was completing her medical school applications at the time of her fatal accident in June 2014.

Sophie’s Fund will provide a two-year award to one or more Goucher students before the end of the recipient’s sophomore year. Awardees will have demonstrated a record of academic achievement (minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5), artistic talent, personal qualities of diligence and grace, and a passion and commitment to pursue a degree in dance.
