“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the blue sky, is by no means waste of time.”

— JOHN LUBBOCK

I can’t always be there, in that physical place that lets me set the heaviness down for a while. So I try to hold on to images, pictures that my mind can recall, to help calm the turmoil that can arise so unpredictably. This picture is special.  This man has walked by my side for 1553 days, never hesitating to put aside his own pain if he senses I am floundering. This image is my reminder that life and death and grief are immeasurably bigger than I am. To rest and contemplate this is by no means a waste of time. To allow oneself this indulgence enables gratitude to surface amid the pain.
